At Kennels Cottage we endeavour to be as environmentally friendly as possible and to support other local businesses as much as we can. Here are just a few examples of the things we do:
- We have our own free range hens, mainly fed on organic feed
- In addition to our own eggs, we use Fairtrade, organic and local food wherever possible, including meat from Puddledub Farm www.puddledub.co.uk
- Flowers in the house are mostly grown and cut from our own gardens
- We grow our own vegetables in three raised vegetable beds in our garden
- We compost and recycle as much as we can - there are 3 compost heaps for vegetable and garden matter and we recycle glass, paper and print cartridges, plastic bottles and cartons, among other things
- The cottage is strictly a “No Smoking” environment
- We use environmentally friendly cleaning products, such as Ecover (www.ecover.com) and Bio products
- We provide "Faith in Nature" natural beauty products in our bathrooms
- Toilets have two types of flush to encourage water saving
- Many light bulbs are energy saving
- Kitchen appliances are ‘A’ rated
- Radiators have thermostatic valves
- And we care about others who share our garden with us - we have 8 bird boxes, 1 owl box, 2 red squirrel feeding boxes, 1 bug box, 1 hedgehog house, 1 ladybird box and four bird feeders!
